I have a suggestion for what to do with your leftover ham that might start your day off right. Sure, getting out of bed in the morning can be difficult. But when you know you’re in for a tasty breakfast treat, you’re bound to be ready in no time! That’s why I love making food that inspires me first thing in the morning. And another requirement that I like is that it’s quick and easy so that I don’t have to face too much stress when I start my day. Looking for similar dishes? Look no further, because this Ham Fried Rice is perfect for you!

What is ham fried rice?
The name of this dish will probably give you a good idea of what to expect. Salty, but slightly sweet because of the ham, this flavorful side dish is one that’s hard to say no to. It gets that great flavor from the soy sauce, sesame oil and many other spices and seasonings that give your rice a boost. It’s basically a delicious hodgepodge of bits of ingredients like our ham, bell peppers and green onions.
Let’s take a look at the other ingredients we will need for our Ham Fried Rice.

What are the ingredients?
You definitely cannot recreate this recipe without 4 cups of cooked rice. As you might expect, it’s best to use day-old rice for this recipe so that it’s not too sticky and has that perfect texture for fried rice. We will need 1 cup of chopped ham, 2 beaten eggs and 4 tablespoons of canola oil. It’s not a healthy breakfast without some nutritious ingredients like 1 bell pepper, 1 onion, and ½ cup green onions, all of which we cut out. For green onions, be sure to separate the whites from the greens.

To get our fried rice to taste perfect, we will need 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and some salt and black pepper.
How to Cook Ham Fried Rice
1. Preparing the eggs

Pour some cooking oil in a pan and let it heat. Add your eggs, and fry until they are fully cooked. Transfer them to a clean plate and then cut them with your spatula.
2. Cook the ham and veggies

Let’s get our ham, and put it in the same pan. Fry the meat for just 2 minutes with your remaining cooking oil. Next, toss in your onions, peppers, and green onion whites. Keep frying everything for 1 minute.
3. Adding rice and seasonings

Take your cooked rice, and place it in the pan. Now toss everything together until you have mixed all the ingredients thoroughly. You can then pour your soy sauce alongside the sesame oil into the pan and toss the ingredients together again.
4. Combine the last few ingredients into the rice

We can add our cooked eggs from earlier, as well as green onions. Just toss them in the rice and cook for just 3 minutes. Season it all with as much salt and black pepper as you like.
How to Serve Ham Fried Rice
Now wasn’t that fun and easy? All you have to do now is serve your delicious fried rice while it’s piping hot. You can transfer everything to a serving plate, but you can also choose to eat it straight out of the pan. I definitely enjoy Ham Fried Rice on its own. But if you’re looking for a savory dish to pair with it, I’d suggest trying it with lumpia or spring rolls or fried chicken. These crunchy treats often go perfectly with fried rice.
How to Store Ham Fried Rice
Want to keep fried rice safe to eat for three more days? No worries, as we can let the rice cool down to room temperature before storing it in an airtight container. Then you can refrigerate it, as I mentioned earlier, for three days. Double check the quality of the rice before reheating.
As for reheating, I would recommend doing it only once to maintain the quality of the rice. You can put it back in your pan and heat it up for a few minutes, depending on how warm you want your rice to be. And keep stirring your rice every once in a while to distribute the heat evenly. In most cases, four minutes will be enough for your fried rice to taste like it did when it was freshly cooked.
